No trip to Saskatoon would be complete without a visit with everybody’s favourite weather girl – excuse me, weather anchor – Fiona O.
Fiona is one of the funnest people I know, so I knew dinner with her would be a blast, regardless of where we went. When our original plans to go to Taste of Saskatoon fell through, Fi zipped me over to Broadway to a restaurant that she had been meaning to check out.
Turns out, the place she picked, Una, beat the heck out of standing around in the grass eating sample sized portions with several hundred Saskatonians. First of all, chairs. Secondly, the playlist was bangin’. Thirdly, and possibly most importantly, Una specializes in the greatest food in the world: pizza.
We ended up ordering a 4-maggi – provolone picante, friuliano, flor de latte mozzarella and pecorino romano, finished with truffle oil and local honey. Yes, honey. And, as if that weren’t enough, we had them throw on some prosciutto. Fi had heard great things about their kale Caesar, so we ordered one of those, too. And possibly some rose sangria.
The pizza was a thin-crust, California-style cheesy dream with umami to spare. If we hadn’t been talking so much, we might have polished off the whole thing in one go. As it was, though, we both had our fill and Fi got to take a couple pieces home to eat bachelor-style (over the sink.)
The salad was perfectly massaged (if you know your kale, you know what I mean) and topped with egg and even MORE crispy prosciutto. It definitely lived up to the hype and, incidentally, provided me with my first vegetable of the day.
Una is located in the eternally hip Broadway area of Saskatoon. If – no, when – I return, I am going to make a point of visiting again. And next time, I’m not sharing.
